"Vector space model" is the concept I was looking for.
I've got some reading to do.
My goal will to find *X* such that
*X* is to "Vector space model" as Google is to "binary search"
Then if found, can I afford it?
Thank you.

If I were you, I would consider Apache Lucene
Apache Lucene is software that implements the vector space model, if I
understand correctly, for natural language processing.
The best explanation I have seen is on wikipedia.

I used have fun searching for answers others couldn't find.
Suggestions for reviving my search skills.
Current goal is simple food diary tracking only calories, protein, fat,
fiber. One restriction is all data on local machine only.
Any user experience with such programs?
Most of my hits have been sites discussing multiple programs thus
hitting on unrelated keywords.
TIA
