There are probably more elegant ways to figure out which desktop
environment you are using, but I would try Synaptic package manager.
Once it is running do a search on 'xfce.' That will pop up lots of
packages and you can tell by looking at them if they are installed.

If some of the main xfce packages are installed, then you have xfce
installed. Unfortunately, this doesn't prove that you are actually
using it, because you can have more than one desktop environment
installed. But if you installed more than one you did so deliberately,
so you would remember.

I used the default desktop environment, and it is xfce. I didn't add any others.
