Do you have any older versions of a database from this program?

I'm wondering if perhaps a change was made and now there is a persistent 
array of keywords somewhere that the "keywords" element now points to an 
index?

That could either be the old way, or the new way, I don't have enough 
data to make that determination.

You should be able to open any of these files in a text editor and see 
if perhaps the formatting for that element has changed.
