That's the case. The character set is Adobe-Japan1 and the xpdf couldn't
find a replacement. Didn't try acroread, mupdf, or MasterPDFEditor. Ended up
manually fixing the four paragraphs.

This all came about because as a new user of kbibtex I changed the character
encoding from the default latin1-1259 to utf8 when I should have changed it
to LaTeX. It's now changed but my scientific refernce database was FUBAR'd.
