Not a problem. The Synology NAS is adequate for my backup needs.

This is quite possibly true.

I definitely need the two disks to be in a stripe. It would be a huge
PITA if they were just two individual disks. True, I lost 2TB of
storage by using Raid 0, because they are 6TB and 8TB, and with Raid 0
you get double the smaller one, i.e., my stripe shows up as 12TB. But
the data on it totals about 7TB, so it's good.

I will definitely look into OpenZFS. Thanks for the suggestion.
