Tomorrow I'll do a hard reset, connect Dell and ER-X on wlan0 and start over. I have both my saved original config file and Russell's config file. Now that setting the Dell to accept DHCP leases fixes the connection issues I'll just go through it all from the begging. Thanks to Russell and everyone else who provided advice on this thread.
