Operator error.
Several weeks ago I moved from one desktop machine, ENU-1 to another,
ENU-2. I copied my Firefox profile directory from ENU-1 to ENU-2, so I
still had bookmarks from the old machine. Somewhere along the line, many
months ago, I hard coded the IP address into the bookmark. I'd left
ENU-1 running so I could go retrieve stuff as needed. So, of course,
when I clicked on the bookmark for one of the websites, it found it on
ENU-1.
Yesterday I decided I didn't need to have ENU-1 running and shut it
down. I didn't pay any attention to the error message I got this morning
which clearly said what IP address it couldn't find. So what happened
was I got busy with other stuff several weeks ago and never installed
Apache on ENU-2. I just fired up ENU-1 again, and all is well. Now I
just have to make some time to install Apache and PHP on ENU-2.
What finally made me realize what was wrong was when I was about to back
up /var/www. It isn't there. I have a copy of www from ENU-1 my the home
directory on ENU-2, and I was trying to find what the link was. It's not
a link. I must have copied the directory in anticipation of installing
Apache, but just never got around to it. So I looked up where www is
supposed to be on Ubuntu, went looking for it in /var, and it's not
there. That's when I put two and two together.
Thanks for the help.
You may now return to more interesting activities.
And, sigh, there is no joy in Columbus, OH, tonight. After seeing both
games, I don't think Clemson will be able to beat LSU, and I'm not sure
Ohio State would have been able to do so, either.
