My neighbor, who ran a home-based engineering business for many years, has an HP Designjet 450C printer/plotter that needs  to go away. I thought I would check with the list to see if there's anyone who would be interested in it.

The good:
- it's a large-format printer/plotter, supporting up to E-size prints.
 - it worked fine the last time it was turned on.
 - it comes with spare ink cartridges still sealed in the original packaging.
 - it's free

The not-so-good:
- It's probably been over 15 years since it was last turned on. The ink that's installed is certainly dried up. HP cartridges embed the print head in the cartridge, but there's no guarantee the spares are still good. - It's doubtful that Windows 10 includes drivers. I honestly don't know about Win7 - I think the last time it was used we were still on XP. Supposedly there's a "universal HP driver" for Win10 that works, but ...

- It uses a Centronics printer interface; most recent motherboards don't bother with this anymore, but add-on cards are available.
- new ink cartridges can be difficult to find.
- It's big.

The rest:
- It should fit in my minivan, so I can help move it to anywhere in the Portland metro area.
- I think there's support in CUPS, through 'gutenprint'

If no one has any interest I'll see if Free Geek would like it. If they don't I'll drop it off at Far West Recycling in Hillsboro.
