I should have mentioned that I don't mind two factor authentication, I
just object to being allowed only one way to do it. My life would be a
lot simpler if Facebook allowed me to create a unique code that only I
know. I can access thousands of dollars of my cash at an ATM with only
a four number PIN; why does Facebook think it needs my phone number and
that my phone can display text messages.

Anyway, just now I tried to create a Google virtual number. The first
problem is that I have to decide if I want it to be Android, iOS or
web. There is no information about what are the capabilities and
requirements of each option. Nevertheless, I started by selecting
Android, and I was then presented with many pictures of presumably
Android phones in operation, with again no information about which one
to select.

Finally, I gave up on that and went back to the beginning, where I
selected web. Google correctly figured out that I already have a Google
account and presented a login window for it. I entered the password,
which it wouldn't take. And now I'm locked out of my Google account
also. I'll have to take the 'forgot password' option but, from past
experience, that will not be a simple process either.

I think we need to figure out a way to identify ourselves online with
our DNA. I could then just lick my computer screen or something and be
accepted.
