As part of a Zoom meeting I share an image. While not terribly annoying,
I'd like to be able to get rid of the menu bar at the top of the window
in which the image is displayed. On my Xubuntu machines, ristretto is
the default image display program. I don't find a way to turn off the
menu bar. Is there an alternative program that lets me turn off all
extraneous window decorations (or controls, or whatever the correct term
is)?

Some apps implement the F11 convention to go fullscreen. Simply pressng F11
might do exactly what you want.

Not totally sure if this implemented by the gtk toolkit or xfce itseld.

Thanks for the idea but, alas, full screen doesn't work for my use. I can go full screen with ristretto, but I need the rest of the screen for other stuff. In fact, two screens is just barely enough.

One of the odd things about Zoom is that the host doesn't see or hear what everybody else sees and hears. The shared window has an outline around it, but to know what the other participants see, one needs to log in on a separate computer. This is also true for sound. Logically it makes sense that one not hear yourself speaking. That is also a problem because you have no idea if the sound you're trying to provide is getting through. Fortunately, I have room on my desk for two computers, and can listen with headphones on a second computer, while speaking to the microphone on the computer on which I am the Zoom host.
