This may belong on plug-talk, but my problem probably has a technical solution to block YouTube spam, without getting into the sordid politics beneath. This evening, I searched for a YouTube video about opening a can with a manual rotary can opener. See the PPS below. The problem is, a well funded national politician has saturated YouTube with a gazillion whack-a-mole pop-up attack ads, and I can't close them fast enough to finish the video I want to see. I do NOT want to discuss that politician on plug-linux, or even discuss why Google allows their YouTube service to be ruined this way, as Google already has more money than God and doesn't need an extra billion or two from that national politician in return for destroying YouTube. I do not want to discuss either of those subjects here. PLUG-TALK please. ----- The TECHNICAL/LINUX subject: I WANT to learn what SOFTWARE or TECHNIQUES to use to filter and block the F***ING pop-ups. Unless I do that, YouTube is ruined. Other services may soon be ruined as well. I need to find and install and learn those tools before the internet turns into S*** and I can't get to the tools. I use Firefox an older version of CentOS Linux on a small screen 4GB laptop; I hope for a compatible solution. Alternately, perhaps "we" (meaning those of you who know how to write code) can develop tools to migrate useful YouTube videos to Internet Archive, and tools to protect the Archive from vandalism. I prefer both personal as well as institutional defenses. Keith P.S. Google? This is forwarded to many gmail addresses, so your servers are capturing dozens of copies of this email. Please do the right thing; your business won't survive if we deploy better solutions than Google. P.P.S. Most people don't know the can opener trick; I saw snippets of a really annoying video by a motormouth moron who doesn't know the trick either. Turn the handle a quarter turn the opposite way before turning it your normal away all the way around to open the can. The lid always separates cleanly that way, because the cuts line up at the closing.
