PS: DNS isn't involved in your ssh problem, since you are using an IP
address, not a hostname, there is nothing to look up.
Thanks. Turns out the problem was the Ethernet cable was unplugged. Not
much fiddling with software would have helped. A new cable with a
working latching gizmo would prevent the problem from reoccurring, even
if I slide the box in and out from under the desk.
