I'm kind of surprised as security conscious as this group is, that anyone
would use Zoom. Especially when there are so many better platforms (Free
Conference Call, Ring Central, etc.) available.

If you think that RingCentral is better than Zoom - you should know that
RingCental uses Zoom. It is not that difficult to figure it out.

Given the attitude people at Ring Central have towards Linux users who
gives a shit? Some of the comments made by their marketing idiots about
linux market share was beyond stupid. People that dumb are nothing more
than justification for a global eugenics program.
On the topic of security, there is not a single video chat application
that meets the requirements set by the Linux community. They ALL fail
basic tests in various areas be it security, vendor lock-in, or dumb
UI/UX decisions.
In fact, arguing over the difference between different apps is
ridiculous since the majority of them are based on Chrome. Very few of
these apps have any control over how video is collected, processed, and
saved. They all leverage the same exact software to interact with your
mic and webcam.
The same software to connect to the internet.
The same software to display the UI.
The same software.
The ONLY difference from one app to the next is the server it talks to.
And even that is just a variable set by some JSON config file. Given
what we know about Google's business model there is very little
guarantee that the data is being handled ethically since all of this
sits on top of Chrome.
Quality software takes time to develop. Unfortunately it seems the human
race has the collective intelligence of a cockroach colony and jumps on
the first piece of half-baked javascript they can find. It's fucking
disgusting.
