Yes. Their network is IPv4-only, they make you pay $15 extra for a
business line if you need a static ip to work around this with a 6in4
tunnel.
Their network does not deploy BCP38
They do not have their own recursive dns resolver, instead telling
customers to use Google's open recursive resolver (HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE
privacy implication!!!!!) though I've had no problems running my own
recursive resolver configured to use OpenNIC's root servers.
Latency is good though not
as good as I'd expect comparing to other fiber providers. (8ms to
apache2-moon.dexter.nwax.net. Throughput is what i'm paying for (100M
U/D).
Ziply's website is busted to all hell and hangs the browser attempting
to load ~350 tracking javascripts by the time it does your looking at
the request counter and it's pulled in 50MB of spyware js. It's not
usable. You can however call in during business hours and speak to a
person who can do things.
Something also worth noting is that they don't send you your invoice
over email but instead send you an email that contains a link to a
url-shorterner with a bunch of marketing tracking parameters tacked on
top. The link doesn't go to a pdf that should have been in the email it
goes to their broken javascript monster website. You can call their
accounting department and get an invoice pdf sent to your email this
way, but they say they don't have the ability to do that automatically.
As with ANY ISP USE YOUR OWN ROUTER.
Make sure your check your first bill to make sure they didn't charge
you a router-rental fee if you didn't buy or rent one of the ISP's
routers and use an aftermarket one. They say they have a glitch in
their system that causes it to charge that all the time.
btw, I sell pre-openwrted routers and done professional installation on
Ziply and Comcast's network making the best of their networks as I can.
People have been pretty happy with the results and reliability. If your
in the area and looking for professional installation please message me.
I have had other people describe Ziply similarly to you have but don't
complain anymore ounce I install and configure my router, so I think
it's mostly the case of the ISP providing their customers with shitty
OEM routers not suited for fiber speeds.
