Normally, image files on my desktop, or some Thunar windows, display a thumbnail of that image. Now, I get an icon with the letters GIF or JPG instead. I can fix the problem by restarting the machine, but shouldn't there be a way to fix it without restarting? It's not true for all directories, but other than the fact that the ones where a thumbnail is displayed are very old directories, I can't explain why.

I've tried searching for solutions with DDG. Most of them aren't for Xubuntu 20.04 or Xfce, but many also say to fix it, restart the machine, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Any ideas how to do this without restarting the machine?

Thanks.
