Yep...most likely PEBKAC...either that or internet search-fu requires additional training. HP printers, especially older laserjets, are well supported. Besides CUPS, you will also need HPLIP to provide the correct printer ppd, filters, and URI. For many HP printers, CUPS will not have the "drivers". As postcript printers, you might be able to get CUPS to work with a generic ppd. Same for PCL5. The interface URI will be the tricky part.
