I recently got my sound working on 9.3. I was unable to play streaming
windows media, and eventually lost all sound. Here is what finally worked
for me.

1 - Install mplayer and mplayer plug-in from packman.iu-bremen.de (A)
2 - Turn off all "sense" detecting options in mixer.
3 - Sound worked

(A) I ran into library dependency problems by installing mplayer package
seperately, it was much easier by simply installing it using Yast from the
packman site. To do so, add Yast HTTP install source (server name:
packman.iu-bremen.de, directory name: suse/9.3 [or 9.2 if you are still
using that.]) Then go to install software and search for "mplayer" and
install.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I can't remember entirely off the top of my head, but try running yast,
remove your sound card and then re-add it.

Also you might want to try selecting alsa in
menu->system->configuration->multimedia systems selector
