Hi all, Apologies for the off-topic, but my calls to local satellite people have always hit a "sorry, we only do Dish Network/DirecTV" and this is the group I can think of who could perhaps help out.
When we bought our home, the previous owners left a satellite dish on the roof (one of those directv-like antennas), and a receiver. The receiver is Conship CDVB2000, with a "CCTV" logo. My research indicates "CCTV" stands for Chinese TV, transmitted over the CCTV 4 and CCTV 9 satellites. That seems plausible since the previous owners were Chinese. Well, I'd like to use that antenna to get some other channels, especifically, some Brazilian and European channels. I've found lots of info on which channels are available by country and by satellite at http://www.lyngsat.com. I even found a program that gives me the Azimuth and elevation for different satellites accessible from my Zip code. But I don't know (a) How to rotate the antenna to the desired location, (b) How to program the receiver to decode the signal, if that's necessary. The Conship CDVB2000 has a serial port on the back, and I've found info on the web on how to load new programming in to it by just editing a file in its console. However I can't find a professional to work with me on this. I can only find people trying to sell me Dish Network and DirectTV (which I don't want, since my townhome association already has comcast). Any leads on professionals that work with satellite or information on how to answer my other questions above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Roberto -- My inferiority complexes aren't as good as yours. .===================================. | This has been a P.L.U.G. mailing. | | Don't Fear the Penguin. | | IRC: #utah at irc.freenode.net | `==================================='
