Ed:
Just up max_connections in my.cnf. High settings are ok - default of 100 is
often too low. Set it at 500 or so.
Also, if you are using PHP, turn off persistent connections in php.ini. The
setting is mysql.allow_persistent - make it Off.
If persistent connections cannot be disabled, set a very low wait_timeout in
my.cnf, eg. 100 seconds.
