Yes, very bad behavior to have enabled by default for sure. In about:config you can change the following boolean attribute to disable such nonsense: network.dns.disableIPv6 I have noticed that it usually is due to a poorly configure DNS server (i.e. try doing an AAAA query for www.etrade.com) and not necessarily the resolver in this case.
