What I do is send my outgoing mail though my ISPs mail server. I get the idea this is what you're supposed to do. In my case it was as simple as /etc/postfix/main.cf: relayhost = iprovo.net What this does is an MX lookup on iprovo.net and then relays my mail through the server that this lookup returns. When I was on Xmission it was "relayhost = xmission.com". Most (all?) ISPs relay outgoing mail for their customers without any authentication.
