Here's my latest on a couple of not-so-recent topics from this list: The last time someone asked about the best mp3 player, I ripped on iTunes. Now I love my iPod. Run rockbox (rockbox.org). I can play my oggs and get my songs on and off my iPod with cp or nautilus. It rocks. I actually use it now.
I asked a while back about why my second hard drive (/dev/hdc) didn't show up any more after I installed Fedora Core 5. I'm guessing that because I one time plugged it into the Promise RAID controller on my mobo, that it now has metadata marking it as a RAID disk. For a while I used /dev/mapper/.._p1 instead of /dev/hdc1. Then along came 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5, and the boot process hung right after loading dm_snapshot. So I re-booted 2.6.17-1.2133_FC5, made new initrd with --omit-raid-modules and --omit-lvm-modules. Et Voila! 2157 boots succesfully and /dev/hdc1 is back where it belongs. So if anybody is still missing hard drives with FC5 (or SuSE 10.1, I saw similar things), try mkinitrd.
