I suggest you try out Roundcube at least for yourself.

i think roundcube is nice. it's clean, it's beautiful, it's easy. it's
just lacking a couple of features that would make it 'great'. i think
if it had the ability to check multiple accounts and had built in
filter functionality, i might use it instead of gmail.
