All I can say is that it makes life a whole lot easier. You don't need to have multiple physical machines or multiboot configurations. As far as the machine running in VMware is concerned, it has its own hardware and is on its own machine. There is probably a VM you can download from vmware (http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/) that is already configured with FC6 or whatever distribution you like.
