It has been a long time since I really felt a need to have a good mp3

in Linux. Way back when, I used to use XMMS (I've always been, and still
am, a Winamp fan). However, XMMS has apparently been removed from Gentoo
and Slackware. Does that indicate impending doom?
I was looking into this too recently for my laptop (HP). I run fluxbox
and try to keep a minimal footprint, so I wanted something small that
would work with the media buttons. I ended up choosing mpd/mpc and gmpc
if I need a gui interface. Its kind of nice just being able to press
play and nothing else and have music start playing.
