I Googled for "nfs squashfs" and found (on the squashfs homepage) that
support for exporting via NFS was added in version 3.2.  I happened to
be using version 3.1 (3.2 is masked in Gentoo).  I forced an upgrade
to 3.2, and voilĂ !
