Instead of running DNS local, I have opted to use www.opendns.com. I
like the management capabilities, especially with computer savvy kids
in the house.
For my own DNS records, mostly external facing, I am using
www.everydns.net. It is first free, second very easy to use, but
with enough power to allow me some of the more "advanced" record
handling that I want.

Hey everyone,
Recently I my ISP appears to have had a DNS outage and it got me
thinking, maybe I should run a DNS server here locally for the
computers on my own LAN.
Has anyone on the list tried doing it? If so what was your
experience. What hardware/software did you run. Did it end up
working well?
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Steve
