Let me start off by saying if you already know this information please feel free to ignore this email.
With the recent Blackberry service outages, I thought it might be a good idea to search for a replacement. I have found a free alternative that I thought I would share with the group. As it turns out every SMS capable phone is actually able to receive emails as well (albeit the character count may be limited). All you have to do is set up, simple email forwarding with your email provider to the SMS gateway. This could turn out to be a much more reliable way to get important messages than using RIM's system which routes all of your emails through their single centralized NOC. Here is a list of email addresses. I couldn't find the address for cricket but I'm sure they must have something like this too. AT&T [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sprint / Nextel [EMAIL PROTECTED] T-Mobile [EMAIL PROTECTED] Verizon Wireless [EMAIL PROTECTED] Virgin Mobile [EMAIL PROTECTED] Qwest [EMAIL PROTECTED] Interestingly enough it appears you can also reply via SMS and the reply goes back to the originator. I hope this information is helpful to at least some of you, and again I apologize to those who already knew this information. Sincerely, Steve p.s. (You may end up paying service charges either for the SMS messages or the relay service, depending on your carrier and rate plan) /* PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug Don't fear the penguin. */
