Actually, this is MySQL AB being MySQL AB. This decision was made before the merger, according to the former CEO of MySQL. (Now Senior VP at Sun.) I'm not thrilled with the idea, but now that my initial paranoia is wearing off, I don't have a problem with it. The same SVP stated that the main DB server will /always/ be under a FOSS license. And I believe him.
