Some people may not trust "the Cloud". So they host their own.
Its also a lot more fun to do the whole thing yourself. For me, just
getting a virtual server with an OS already installed isn't as exciting
as building your own box and customizing everything. (Besides EC2 has
had some extended outages in the past).
