Nagios is much more expandable. Nagios has more community development. Even if Zabbix works well for your current monitoring requirements, it may not work easily for future requirements. Nagios has plugins and add-ons for all sorts of situations, monitoring requirements, device or software to be monitored, etc. While you can modify Zabbix software, why not use a software package which already has the functionality available which you would like? Also, look at it from a marketability standpoint-- on Monster there are currently 5 job postings for experience with Zabbix. Compare that with more than 90 for Nagios.
