No, this is caused because you are blocking the return DNS replies. In your last copy of the "script", you left out the return traffic. /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT You seemed to replace it with the loopback traffic rule. Remember you will want both.
