samba.conf can get very verbose with logging and connection attempts. The samba.conf man page is long and pretty detailed*. You can even use per ip/username logs to filter out noise of other hosts easily.
If you just need to see who's connected to what resources now, smbstatus may suffice. * There are still some rough spots, but not nearly as terse as many man pages usually are. Regards, Scott.
