There are also some utilities to recover unfragmented files from partitions that do not even need to know the what filesystem is being used. These are unlikely to be able to recover entire virtual harddisks as they would likely be fragmented, but may be handy if what you really need is certain particular files from the virtual harddisks. PhotoRec and grep are examples of such utilities. -- John C.
