According to surveys of the NRA membership, they tend to be better educated, older, wealthier and far less likely to have prior convictions than the American public at large. The term "gun nut" is one of those derogatory stereotyping and offensive terms like "wop" and "kike" that substitute for rational discussion in certain quarters.
