I have announced Salt on sllug, but not on plug or oalug. Salt is a remote execution manager that allows for commands to be executed on swaths of remote servers in parallel. It is similar to the Func project and MCollective.
I am announcing Salt to the local Linux groups for a few reasons, one is because I just pushed out a fresh release of Salt, version 0.8.7. But the real reason is in response to the amazingly positive feedback I got from my Salt presentation to the Utah Python user's group last Thursday. The release announcement for Salt 0.8.7 can be found here: http://red45.wordpress.com/2011/05/15/salt-0-8-7/ Salt 0.8.7 can be downloaded from here: https://github.com/downloads/thatch45/salt/salt-0.8.7.tar.gz The slides from the Utah Python presentation can be downloaded here: https://github.com/downloads/thatch45/salt/Salt.pdf And Salt's github page (which is still the acting Salt homepage) can be found here: https://github.com/thatch45/salt I will have a screencast of the Utah Python presentation soon as well. A number of members of these Linux Users groups have expressed an interest in having me present on Salt. If anyone is interested I would love to present! -Thomas S Hatch /* PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug Don't fear the penguin. */
