I agree with EAGLE. I ended up purchasing a license myself years ago. I still used some foss tools too, but you'll want to make sure your measurements of the output are as you expect. I learned this the hard way *once* and it wasn't cheap. :) You can run into that with EAGLE or any tool, if you're not careful, but it slipped my attention. A gerber viewer is similar to a pdf viewer, with specific needs in mind for gerber files. Eg, more than you'll find from a gerber to pdf conversion.
I have some atmels (lots of 1200s? a few 2313s? wanting some avr32). There are a few things I want to spin up, but I looking to see if an avr32 board can run a usb2.0 camera, wifi, linux, and zoneminder. Some project for another day I suppose.
