Never offer to answer an interview question "for a fee". Seriously, a guy that we interviewed did that. We had a fairly ordinary list of questions about storage, clustering, virtualization, dev management, etc. We described a current project, then asked one of the questions-- "If you were managing development project foo, what best practices would you consider most relevant?" The guy sat and thought about it and then said, "Yes, I could do that." The conversation went on...
"Umm, do what?" "I could apply best practices and improve on whatever you're doing now." "Ah, ok. Which would you consider most important to this project?" "I'd rather not answer without being paid a consulting fee." "We're asking how you'd manage a project that we're considering handing over to you. We're not asking for detailed roadmap or management plan here, just a 30-second overview." "You understand, I have to look out for my own interests. I can assure you, though, that I am the best." In the same interview, the guy actually said, "Look me up on the internet. I am famous. Seriously." I'd rather not say the guy's name, but I will say that I took him up on his offer. That was a seriously convoluted trip down the rabbit hole. Andrew /* PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug Don't fear the penguin. */
