This is what I was wondering also. Was the cable buried naked or was it buried inside a conduit? If it was buried naked, no wonder the original company failed. If there is conduit, you can fix the mistake. If there is no conduit, perhaps write off the old runs and consider perhaps making some runs in the dirt? Or overground?
