SCSI (and SAS) drives also have a similar feature, although it may not be
as easily accessible, and is not guaranteed to be implemented, though I'd
wager that most modern drives do.

For [SP]ATA drives there are actually two secure erase modes. In addition,
there also exist HPA and DCO features which can alter the reported size of
the device (reducing it--hiding sectors), and can affect which sectors
secure erase will wipe. HPA and DCO are used most often by mfrs that want
to hide recovery partitions where end users won't have visibility.
