Thanks everyone. Great chat. The frequency hack I mentioned can be done by programming the frequencies using chirp (an app that does not do frequency validation, and yay runs on linux). If you want to be able to set a frequency outside the normal range right from the keypad, google for "field programming baofeng unlocked". I won't post a link here since that method isn't advisable.
