As a data point, I think I've had about as many network appliance
wall-wart power supplies go bad as I have PC power supplies. Possibly
more. And when they go, the device doesn't always just turn off,
sometimes it limps along with severely degraded performance, making it
difficult to diagnose the problem.  But in general I agree that
networking appliances are usually way lower-overhead in the
maintenance department than custom-built solutions.
