I am curious what other people use to automate the deployment and
provisioning of new hosts. In other words, what tools are you using to
launch a new server (dedicated, vps, cloud), provision it with the services
and applications that you need, add it to the proxy rotation and DNS, and
then update it or remove it when needed?
Currently I am using fabric scripts and Jenkins.
I have been looking at Ansible (http://www.ansible.com/) and Terraform (
https://www.terraform.io/) to take my automation to a higher level.
I've used them all (CFengine, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt).
I'm a super big fan of Ansible. (been a contributer since day 1).
But saltstack is almost as easy to use.
If you're needing the more robust use cases go with Puppet.
If you like pain, or dream in directed acyclic graphs go with CFengine.
Use one, that's all.
If you want a presentation on Ansible, I think I may be able to come up
with somethign for Feb meeting.
