It's been a long time since I worked with Samba domains but if I recall,
isn't there something you have to do with the password of the machine
account before you can join? Especially if you are replacing an
existing computer that had already been a part of the domain with that
machine account. Maybe the easiest thing is to delete the machine
account and recreate it? smbpasswd -m ?
Forgot to mention I did that step. The database is in LDAP. So I
deleted the entry in ldap and readded it with a script we use, and then
ran smbpasswd -m
