I guess it would be possible to do that since it is actually a regular pc board running Linux (Damn Small Linux to be correct).

I don't know if SlimServer would run well from an USB memory stick tough? Maybe I'll give it a try sometimes.
Keep the songs on a fileserver - the bottleneck will be your wireless connection.
