Nice suggestion, but yes I do.

To check this I dropped the SoftSqueeze bit rate limit to
ensure transcoding to MP3, and that worked fine. (I checked
that SoftSqueeze was seeing it as MP3 as well.)

Also streaming flac to the PDA transcoded to MP3 works fine,
as does Shoutcast streaming....

However, after some more research on the list, I tried the same
experiment with the d_remotestream debug switch on. This appears
to have provided the key piece of information:

So, Alien is quite happy streaming MP3 to SoftSqueeze, but not
to a software player.

Is this a real limitation of AlienBBC, a bug, or something else?

I should also point out that I'm using:
slimserver-2005_05_30-1 on Linux (FC2)
and Alien 0.97 (31 March, 2005)

with
mplayer-1.0-39_pre6.rhfc2.at
mplayer-codecs-essential-20040704-1

Receiving player is WMP10 on WinXP
or GSPlayer on Windows Mobile (SE)
