I don't think this is currently supported, but I stand ready to be
connected.
What I would like is a plugin that lets me assign shortcuts to keys on
the remote.
My concept is that configuring the plugin might be a matter of setting
first the shortcut key - for example, I don't have any use for the
'sleep' button on the remote, so I'd use that; and then setting up to
ten playlists which would map to keys 0-9.
I think that the simplest way for this to work would be via playlists.
Then I can use some existing playlists - eg I have a playlists for
children's stories, which I sometimes need emergency access to in a
hurry!; some smart playlists which I could set up as a way of mapping a
genre; some playlists I'd set up specially - eg there are a couple of
internet radio stations I'd like to have just two buttons away, and if
I ever manage to get AlienBBC working, I'd certainly want to add
'radio4 live', plus the top of the Radio4 Listen again menu.
Thus I'd be able at any time to grab the remote and do
Sleep-1: Kids stories ('real' playlist)
Sleep-2: World music (genre playlist)
Sleep-3: Jolly music ('real' playlist)
Sleep-4: Radio 4 (fantasy AlienBBC playlist)
Sleep-5: FIP Radio (single item playlist for internet radio
station)
etc.
(It might also be useful to have the ability to set one shortcode
number to perform the original function of the shortcut key. Thus if
there weren't any keys you never used, you could pick one that used
rarely - eg 'shuffle', perhaps - and still retain that function, with
just one more keypress.)
A more complicated, but presumably flexible, system would allow you to
map a shortcut code to a path through the menus. I guess that would
allow one to eg have a shortcut to the slimtris game, or a shortcut to
a particular RSS feed ticker. For my purposes that's overkill, and I
suspect it might be more complex and fragile -- but I guess that's
really a decision for anyone who might look into developing something
this.
Does this make sense? Is something like this already available? If
not would it be very complicated to implement?
