I don't think you'll get it to work through the proxy. I'm also not sure about changing port 3483, but I'm sure you can change it even if it is hard-coded somewhere . The reason I suggested doing it over ssh on a non-standard port is that you only need to find one open port and then you can tunnel as many other things over that as you want.
