Knoppix style distributions are rather memory hungry as they make use of a ramdisk and have to decompress files on the fly. If ever I'm seriously building a machine based on that work I'll install 512MB of ram and run it with the "toram" parameter - all copied into ram. This might speed up loading firefox considerably :-)
Another test: I'm now using 256MB RAM. After a complete scan and X running I still have 180MB free. No problem at all, I even started ssh daemon connected to it to do some monitoring.
But the most surprising is AlienBBC. It's running and running on this poor old Pentium 200. Only hiccup I had was when I started firefox on the server :-). It's topping out when compressing to MP3, with lame using about 50% of the cpu. flac is behaving better with a total of "only" about 75-80% cpu load.
Did anybody ever install AlienBBC on a linkstation? -- Michael ----------------------------------------------------------- Help translate SlimServer by using the StringEditor Plugin (http://www.herger.net/slim/) _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
