This kind of question was done to death back when Audioscrobbler had their artist moderation feature - the answer was always to refer to Musicbrainz. It's certainly not very satisfactory for multiple artists, but it is at least a standard from which fairly meaningful stats can be derived.
However I don't think I've ever seen anybody ask the AS folks what to do when the music file contains two separate artist tags, so it may be worth asking at their forums? It might also be worth asking them to consider allowing multiple artists in some future version of the submission protocol. I suspect they'd just want data in the Musicbrainz style though. Of course, Musicbrainz itself isn't consistent in this case - that track variously appears as by Soggy Bottom Boys (with a feat. tag) and also by "Soggy Bottom Boys & Dan Tyminski". It's a pain this metadata nonsense, isn't it :) I don't think the plugin should be calculating a combined artist name unless AS give us a standard for us (and the other AS plugins - this is by no means just a question for SlimScrobbler) to follow. So don't ditch your code Hakan, just shelve it :) BTW how did you get the individual multiple artists out of SlimServer?
